Preparing the Seam for the K9 Seamer

The first step is to determine which direction the seam lays on the roof. In this case we are looking at the seam from the eave up. The picture on the left shows a situation where the seamer will run from the ridge to the eave. The picture on the right shows a situation where the seamer will run from the eave to the ridge.

For our example the panels are laying with the seam on the right so we will run the seamer from the eave to the ridge. The following procedure allows the seamer to start entirely on the roof (as opposed to hanging half off). This is also useful when continuing a seam after a skylight or flashing that interrupts the panel.

The next step is to prepare the first 16 inches with the 001 or 001Classic First Stage hand seamer. The enlarged picture shows what a seam looks like at the first stage.

Then prepare the first 8" with the 099 Finish hand seamer. The enlarged picture shows what a seam looks like at the second stage.

Now the K9 Power Seamer can be placed on the seam. The first two forming rolls should be on the first stage part of the seam. The third forming roll should be on the transition between the first and second stages. The fourth forming roll should be on the second stage part of the seam. Clamp the seamer down, swing the handle out of the way if desired, and turn the seamer on. Check the seam - if ok - continue seaming.
